Varanus marmoratus belongs to the subgenus Soterosaurus, which was derscribed by ZIEGLER & BÖHME (1997). This species can reach a total length of about 200 cm. Coloration and pattern can vary extremely.
The pattern in this species is very similar to V. cumingi, but always a bit darker. The head is dark. They are also adapted to water, which can be seen on the laterally compressed tail. The length is about 1.4 - 1.7 times the SVL.

V. marmoratus lives on the northern and western islands of
the Philippines (Luzon, Mindoro, Calaman and Palawan) (KOCH et al. 2007).
