Varanus marmoratus belongs to the subgenus Soterosaurus, which was derscribed by ZIEGLER & BÖHME (1997). This species can reach a total length of about 200 cm. Coloration and pattern can vary extremely.
The pattern in this species is very similar to V. cumingi, but always a bit darker. The head is dark. They are also adapted to water, which can be seen on the laterally compressed tail. The length is about 1.4 - 1.7 times the SVL.

Distribution, habitat and behavior


V. marmoratus lives on the northern and western islands of the Philippines (Luzon, Mindoro, Calaman and Palawan) (KOCH et al. 2007).

There is no report on captive husbandry published till now.
