  This recently described monitor species V. bitatawa from the Philippine Islands belongs to the subgenera Philippinosaurus. It can reach a total length of more then 200 cm.
Distribution, habitat and behavior

Varanus bitatawa is found on the nort-eastern edge of Luzon Island, Philippines. This species is found in or around the edges of large forest regions of the Sierra Madre Mountain Range close to Pandanus palms.
This species lives arboreal. The major food items are fruits from several forest fruit trees, e.g. screw palms (Pandanus) and fig trees (Ficus).
