Zug's Mangrove Monitor
 

This monitor species Varanus zugorum originates from Jailolo, Halmahera Islands, Moluccan islands, Indonesia, belongs to the subgenera Euprepiosaurus. The tail is compressed, dorsally crested and is about 1.4 times as long as SVL.
The coloration is peculiar, patternless, greyish to greenish- olive with sparsely intermixed bluish scales. The underside is whitish, the tail tip shows dark crossbands. The tongue is dark bluish anteriorly, becorning distinctly lighter posteriorly (with broad whitish edges). Habitus slender, with a distinctly elongated neck. Dorsal neck scales rounded to oval, medially enlarged. 134 scales are around midbody (BÖHME & ZIEGLER 2005).


Distribution, habitat and behavior

zugorum

Varanus zugorum is only known from the type locality Jailolo on Halmahera Island.


Keeping and breeding
Nothing is know on captive husbandry of the newly described species.
